Fundraising Initiatives for the 2016/2017 session
Run for Newport
Have you made a New Year's resolution to get fit?
Can we motivate you to get fit and raise funds for Newport?
The Boys' Brigade NI is challenging members to take part in the 2017 Belfast Marathon on Monday 1st May to raise money for our Newport Appeal. The entire city gets behind this event each year, with over 20,000 runners taking on the course that gives you a tour of all parts of Belfast. A very enthusiastic crowd cheers you on your way to a triumphant finish in Ormeau Park.
You don't have to be a honed athlete - there are various options to take part:
Full Marathon, 8 mile walk, Team Relay, Wheelchair Race, Fun Run.
(Please note the minimum age for taking part in the Relay, the Full Marathon or the Walk is 16 - any participants under the age of 16 should register for the Fun run).
We encourage at least one team/individual to enter from every Battalion.
Can you do this?
BB is offering some prizes for Individual, Company and Battalion entries.
Click here to enter the Marathon.
After entering with the Belfast Marathon event organisers please also Register to Run for Newport with NIHQ (by Fri 31 March 2017) to receive your BB Marathon Fundraising pack - each participant will also receive a BB T shirt to wear on the day.
Note: If you want to take part in the relay but do not have a full relay team, please contact us through the registration form Run for Newport and BBNI HQ will try to organise people into teams.
Best wishes with your training!
Can you help by organising a Battalion and or Company event this session if you did not run one in the 2015/16 session?
Thank you to the Mid-Ulster Battalion (pictured below) who presented Drew Buchanan (centre) and Trevor McCormick (far Left) with a cheque for the Newport Appeal on Saturday 7 Jan 2017. The Battalion raised the funds by hosting the Play 'Cash on Delivery' by the Killylea Silver Players. We are very grateful for all the hard work the Battalion undertook for this fundraising event and to all who supported them. Also pictured is Mid -Ulster Battalion members Ian McCullough, Anne Houston, Gareth Campbell and Jim Thornberry with our NID President David Blevins.
A Province Wide Street Collection was held on throughout Northern Ireland on Saturday 26th November 2016 for our Newport Appeal. This is a fantastic opportunity to raise funds for Newport whilst at the same time raising the profile of Boys' Brigade across the whole province in such a visible way. Over £7,000 was raised on the day. Thanks to all who supported this initiative.
Friends of Newport
The Friends of Newport is a scheme whereby members past and present and supporters of BB can make an ongoing monthly donation to help our Opening New Doors Appeal for Newport. We are asking for a £10 joining fee and then a monthly donation of at least a £1. The ongoing monthly donation will assist us greatly with the development of our Northern Ireland Headquarters at Newport and in Advancing Christ's Kingdom among boys. As we develop this network we will keep our 'Friends of Newport' updated on progress, not only at Newport but also within the Boys' Brigade in Northern Ireland. Al Friends of Newport are invited to join our members only Facebook Group, where we will post updates on a regular basis.
On receipt of the Friends of Newport form and £10 sign up fee, NIHQ will send you a Friends of Newport pen and badge. We hope all Friends of Newport will wear the Badge with pride and encourage others to join the scheme.
